3 Ways to Read a Book
So, you know I love the Daily 5. I’ve declared my love for the Daily 5 in previous posts. In keeping with the love, I wanted to show you what I do to teach and then re-inforce the 3 ways to read a book.
I start with this
This I use so that my kids have a visual of how exactly to do this. Let’s face it, even the best of them at times are distracted. We practise this and practise this so much at the beginning of the year that I could recite it in my sleep. Once the 3 ways are in place, I give my kids a chance to tell me and show me what 3 Ways to Read a Book looks like. Then I move in with the writing, tell me the 3 ways and then
draw yourself actually doing one of the ways. You can click on the picture to download.
But, I guess what I’ve learned from doing this over the years is that you have to keep at it all year long. They need to be reminded of the ways even after they already know how to do it. Once that’s established, they just need to get better and better at it. I hope:)

Hi Leslie, your blog really is "Groovy"!! I love it!
I really like your three ways to read a book. As a fifth grade teacher this would be great for my ELL students.
Thanks for posting.
